Highlights from Durham Planning Commission (NC)

The Durham Planning Commission hears detailed arguments over the Reserve at Rocky Branch rezoning—balancing mixed-income housing promises against steep-slope erosion, creek health, and strained Southeast Durham infrastructure—before voting 10–0 against a favorable recommendation. The commission also weighs smaller annexation and rezoning requests and ultimately delays a decision on Thompson Village to resolve questions about access, unit caps, and utility commitments.

The Durham Planning Commission weighs dense new apartments at Alexan Farrington and a 50‑townhome project off Randall Road, wrestling with school capacity, traffic safety, environmental impacts, affordability, and neighborhood connectivity. Both Farrington Road cases ultimately move forward to the City Council with favorable recommendations.
